In a recent statement, Sokhon claimed the accusations were false and part of a monetary scheme against him.
“To be truthful, people are liars, and they’re just trying to generate income. “As someone who does my best to help and care for people, that’s my mission as a physician,” Sokhon said during a phone interview on Tuesday evening.
Sokhon answered directly when asked if he had ever inappropriately touched any of his patients, “No, sir. I’m sorry. I’m currently occupied, and I am just focusing on physician work.
The accusations against Sokhon began to come to light earlier this year, after the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested him at his private practice on the North Freeway in February.
In the beginning, indecent assault charges were brought, but later investigations prompted additional charges in March and August after four more accusers came forward.
A Sixth Accuser Emerges
On Tuesday, a sixth woman referred to as Jane Doe in court documents filed a civil lawsuit against Memorial Hermann Health System, claiming that the hospital negligently allowed Sokhon to be credentialed despite his record of disciplinary actions.
Attorney Adam Funk for Jane Doe pointed out that his client was recovering from elbow surgery at Memorial Hermann when she claimed to have woken up to Dr. Sokhon touching her breasts while she was by herself in her hospital room.
Funk said, “He was using his position as a doctor with an impressive resume from a hospital that is obviously famous around the world and was permitted to do so.”
The complaint claims that Memorial Hermann permitted a known disciplined physician to conduct an evaluation of Jane Doe without adequate supervision, which supposedly allowed him to take advantage of his position and supposedly assault her. Memorial Hermann did not comment on the case, which is still pending.
If your loved ones were involved in such a case then you need the help of a reputable personal injury lawyer in Texas to bring the culprit to justice and get maximum compensation. |
A History of Disciplinary Issues
Dr. Sokhon’s professional record reveals a troubling history of disciplinary actions. The Texas Medical Board reprimanded him in 2014 for violating the standard of care for a patient and required him to be monitored, take additional classes, and pay a penalty.
In 2018, the board again reprimanded Sokhon for failing to comply with the monitor’s recommendations and providing incorrect information regarding disciplinary actions.
In 2022, Sokhon was implicated in a healthcare fraud scheme and, although he did not admit guilt, he agreed to a remedial plan to avoid litigation costs.
His medical license was suspended following his February arrest, with the Texas Medical Board stating that he poses a continuing threat to public welfare.
Legal Ramifications and Future Proceedings
The criminal cases against Sokhon are ongoing, with his next court appearance scheduled for next week.
As for the civil lawsuit, Jane Doe’s attorney, Funk, is seeking to hold Memorial Hermann accountable for what he describes as a failure to protect patients from a physician with a known history of misconduct.
“This is not just about Jane Doe,” Funk emphasized. “What she’s trying to make sure is that this does not happen again to anybody.”
Dr. Sokhon’s legal battles are far from over as he continues to fight both criminal charges and civil claims. Meanwhile, his license remains suspended, leaving his future in the medical field uncertain.
